easy_install -U distribute

uhm, it is designed to bootstrap itself with distribute_setup.

Similar problem occurs if distributed is not installed as show below.
# virtualenv --no-site-packages --clear glas-virt
# source glas-virt/bin/active
(glas-virt)# pip install glastopf

how about this one? If not installed (or too old) the user needs to install distribute as per. instructions sent to STDERR. No easy way around this. But then again, no one has raised any issues regarding this - so i think we will be OK with the current implementation?
