@mrzachnugent Thank you for this project, I see you just upgraded to expo 50 a few days ago. I noticed this when upgrading to 50 to make use of the new router.
I'm currently working on a PR to fix this as well.
Edit: I've found the fix. I am currently opening a PR that resolves this.

I want to note the verbose logs output related to useLayoutEffect is a separate issue I will open another PR that fixes that.
