Status? I've been busy lately and could not get to some issues.

I have made major changes to install-driver.sh since you posted this issue. You might try removing the old installation and start over with what is in the repo now.

I think the issue happened because of running install-driver.sh multiple times, so maybe it should delete previous directories if exists before creating a new one

What you can do is:

$ cd ~/src/88x2bu-20210702
$ git pull
$ sudo ./remove-driver.sh
$ sudo ./install-driver.sh

That would update the driver to the current version, remove the old version and clean things up and then install the new version. Note that version number of the driver does not change but there are near constant changes and updates that happen to keep the driver working on newer kernels as they are released. It is different than how Windows works.
