Keep in mind that our mission here is to test and get things ready for a public release, not get lost in long philosophical discussions.
I believe this repo is already good enough for public release. The wifi stability issue is not something that can be solved overnight ... at least realtek failed to solve it after many versions of this driver

I hear you and can't really argue with your point. I need to go over the docs so give me a chance to do that and then we can look at going public.
In the keep with the topic here, have you seen any txpower or range issues?

Since you want comparison on different OS:
The best indication that we will have that there is a problem with this driver is if we see a large difference in the range with a specific adapter that is tested with this driver and then with a Windows or OSX driver.
I did use 88x2bu adapters on windows before and saw no noticeable difference in signal strength.
But I will not use 88x2bu adapters on windows in the future until better driver is released. There is a big problem with this adapter on windows. You cannot switch its usb mode using driver parameters. It always tend to run in usb2 mode, no matter what I do, I can't get it to usb3 mode.
Besides, there is no hostapd on windows. So no, it is a bad adapter for windows
Did not test osx. I don't have a machine that runs it

Okay. Good info. I'll stand by for details from the person that brought it up.

I don't have any Windows installations so I am flying blind here. This does not surprise me.

The main hostapd dev is also a Linux kernel dev. He works on Atheros wifi drivers. If you are running on amd64/x86-64 hardware in a desktop enclosure, you should have additional options available. USB is thought of as a niche market so advances come slowly. You already have in-kernel drivers ready for PCIe cards and other cards that might work in your case. AX capability and more. I watch the Linux Wireless list so I monitor what is going on. It would also expand your options to Intel, Atheros and Mediatek. The in-kernel drivers for the internal cards are more feature rich. USB adapters are fun but they are not the only game in town if you have the right system.
