buildkitd
is designed to run like a service/server, independent of the client (buildctl or docker build
). Perhaps we should look into the amount of resources it's consuming during idle time and if there's any perf-tuning needed there? Can share some metrics you've collected?

Thank you for looking into this.
Can share some metrics you've collected?
Sure, I believe I can try to collect some metrics over the next few days. I'll get back to you with the results.

Stopping and restarting takes additional time and may interfere with another ongoing request. Additionally, features like build history do not work when the daemon is not running. If you wish to shut down the builder between your builds, there is a command docker buildx stop
that does that for you.
