Hi @mlammens, thanks for getting back to me!

This may not be the way it was meant to be done, but I solved the problem by using thin.algorithm with a 3 column dataset where col 1: longitude; col 2: latitude; and col 3: ID. Thin.algorithm just ignored the 3rd column and left it attached to the output.

Interesting @kduckworth . My thought was going to be to set the row names of your unthinned data.frame as your ID, then to run the thin algorithm and see if the row names are retained. I have a recollection that they are, but it's been a while since I've payed attention to that detail.
