Hi Yonas,
after you add the KVM succesfully, you should be able to see the hypervisor and VMs (running, stopped, terminated).
What is the output of supervisorctl? All services should be RUNNING, otherwise you have to check on var/log/*.log why they have failed.
user@user:~/mist.io$ ./bin/supervisorctl status
celery RUNNING pid 11898, uptime 0:00:07
haproxy RUNNING pid 11895, uptime 0:00:07
memcache RUNNING pid 11900, uptime 0:00:07
rabbitmq RUNNING pid 11899, uptime 0:00:07
socketio RUNNING pid 11896, uptime 0:00:07
uwsgi RUNNING pid 11897, uptime 0:00:07
Also have a look on the instructions at https://mistio.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203342499--Adding-credentials-for-KVM-backends
You won't be able to see images, since creating virtual machines is not supported at the moment (it is on the dev roadmap however)
Hope this helps!
from mist-ce.
Hi Markos,
It looks like rabbitmq wasn't able to start. I'm not sure if that would cause the issue.
I've set the KVM hostname to "localhost", and the ssh user/port/key to be blank.
Here are the rabbitmq logs:
./bin/supervisorctl start all
haproxy: started
socketio: started
uwsgi: started
celery: started
rabbitmq: ERROR (abnormal termination)
memcache: started

Hi Yonas,
try running epmd -daemon
and then start rabbitmq with ./bin/supervisorctl start rabbitmq
from mist-ce.
Thanks, that worked! :) I can now see my machines.
When I select one of my machines that's powered on, the Tags and Shell buttons at the bottom of the page are disabled, only the Power button is enabled. Is this functionality not available yet for KVM?
from mist-ce.
Tags currently only work for cloud providers that natively support them. A provider agnostic tag implementation is coming soon though.
Generally speaking, shell works over SSH connections, so you need to add the right SSH key to your mist.io installation (in the keys section) and associate it with the machine (from the single machine view, using the 'add key' button on the top right corner) in order to be able to use the web shell. I don't know if there's an exception to this in KVM's case cause I haven't used KVM yet.
from mist-ce.
To add to what dimrozakis just wrote, here is a small guide on how to add keys, and how they generally work on Mist.io: https://mistio.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/200794389-Creating-keys-and-providing-SSH-access-to-Mist-io
from mist-ce.
When I try to add the key to the VM, I see this error in the logs:
INFO MainThread views - exception_handler_mist: MistError: RequiredParameterMissingError('Required parameter not provided: host',)
from mist-ce.
Hi Yonas,
mist.io uses libvirt to connect with the KVM hypervisor - localhost in your case, or remote ssh server which is usually the case. Libvirt does not contain any information regarding ip addresses (public or private), only MAC addresses of the VMs. Mist.io does an effort to associate ips with MAC addresses, in your case this seems to have not worked as expected.
You can see the code in file src/libcloud/libcloud/compute/drivers/libvirt_driver.py, on list_nodes function. First of all it tries to execute an
arp -an
command, in order to get the MAC/ip adresses listings, so if this command for some reason is missing from your system, it will fail to make any association what ip address each VM has.
from mist-ce.
Mist.io is getting the correct IPs under Basic Info > Private IPs. I'm not sure which host the error message is referring to if Mist.io knows my VM's IP address.
from mist-ce.
I see. Mist.io will try to ssh to the public ips of a host, this makes sense for the SaaS since it would fail to connect to private ips. But in your case of a local installation, private ips are accessible from the host running mist.io software, so we could consider attempting to ssh to the private ips as well.
from mist-ce.
Version 2 is out, comes with an easier installation process using Docker Compose and many new features, check updated instructions on https://github.com/mistio/mist.io
from mist-ce.
Awesome, thanks @mgogoulos ! Checking it out now :)
