Upon further testing, it seems the issue is caused by the specific folder I was testing as it possibly contains too many files for DownGit to handle or compress into a .zip file in a reasonable amount of time. Thus I just get a loading animation and the file does not download.
However, if I refresh the page or try to download a different directory directly afterwards, I then get the Server Error message as if DownGit is still working on my previous download or something.
After a few hours I'm able to try again downloading a smaller directory and DownGit then works as expected and allows me to save the download to my computer.
