It looks like the fnCategorySuggestGetPageCategories( $m_pageObj ) function would need to be updated to search for these tags as well as <nowiki> tags. The way the exclusion of <nowiki> tags is currently done doesn't make it easy to add additional search options that won't break with arbitrary nesting of the tags. A better way would be to rewrite this function as a finite state machine that switches in and out of "match category-tags" mode. While this shouldn't be too difficult, it isn't something I'm likely to get around to implementing for some time so I welcome patch submissions. 😃
