Did some further checking. Version 1.2 is ok on Win XP, version 1.2.2 and version 1.5 are not.

The latest releases were built using Visual Studio 2012 which by default creates executables that are not compatible with Win XP. I've just rebuilt dvisvgm 1.5 with XP compatibility mode enabled. You can download it here:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/15534106/dvisvgm-1.5-win32.zip
Since I don't have an XP system available, I can't check if it works correctly.

Thanks, but I still get the problem. I'll stick with the old version
and maybe try and compile the new one from source on my machine.

Title:
not valid win32 file - win XP

Status in dvisvgm - A DVI to SVG converter:
New

Bug description:
Downloaded dvisvgm-1.2.2-win32 and unzipped. When dvisvgm.exe is
double-clicked, windows says that it is not a valid win32 file.

Running Windows XP; miktex 2.9 installed.

(The win64 version works fine on my laptop.)

To be honest, really not sure whether this is a bug in dvisvgm or
something missing from my win XP computer.

Maybe it helps to compile the sources with MinGW instead of Visual C++. You can download the above zip archive again which now contains a 32bit executable built with MinGW/GCC.

than microsoft
