I wrote this about IP to a company for some starting text:
- It's easiest if topics are chosen that have some distance from the core IP of the company. If that's the case, we may need not worry much about this.
- MSc students have to write a thesis and that will be published publicly, but can be embargoed for 6 months to some years. For example, this thesis was done with Gazelle (https://repository.tudelft.nl/islandora/object/uuid%3Ad8f74cbd-0326-4908-8e84-0b85d9d80a0b). The thesis was embargoed from July 3, 2018 to July 3rd, 2020.
- MSc students present their work at their defense which is public. Things can likely be left out that are sensitive.
- I have an interest in publishing journal papers on some of these topics, depending on the academic interest and student interest. We'd have to work out what can be shared, but this can be after the embargo.
- I suspect the student and I can sign NDAs (checking on details of this).
- If an MSc student does an internship, you can treat them like an employee and they'd have to honor all IP agreements.
- We can't work on the same project topic at the same time for two different companies. For example, we'd need to do projects that aren't too close to any of the Gazelle projects listed on the lab web site.
- I typically advertise the project proposal publicly on the lab website.
