It seems that if it can't subscribe to the channel you are in and thus can't see you it crashes the bot.

This probably has to do with subscribe permissions which you pointed out - nice find 🙌
The server we use the bot on tends to have no subscription permissions set at all which is why we never ran into this!

We did actually run into this before, it's a duplicate of #26.
Before I just misunderstood what the issue was so this helps a lot.
