Come to think of it, I don't quite understand how the mathjax dependency is supposed to work -- it seems to be included both as a git submodule and as an npm dependency. Are we sort of in transition from the former to the latter?

OOPS! I was working on making MathJax a proper dependency, but hadn't gotten everything finished, and that wasn't supposed to have made it into master. It turns out that I branched a bug fix off the test version rather than master, and so it got merged in inadvertently when I merged the bug fix, and I didn't catch it.
I think I have straightened it out. See if you can check it out properly now. Sorry about the problem, and thanks for letting me know.
