I'm not actually using this code directly.

I ported your code to ActionScript for use with Adobe AIR, but I found that some images that I was encoding to embed into a HTML data stream didn't render, and hence tracked the bug back to your code, since I didnt think I'd deleted that masking when I ported it.

So basically I just thought I'd report it as a bug, rather than having to fork your repo and then submit a PR then delete my fork after the PR had been accepted.

This was the PNG it did not encode correctly
character

The last 4 byes should be gg== but its missing the first g, so it ends up as

g==

And the whole encoded sequence is one byte too short

I used one of those online image encoder websites and looked at the output from you function vs the online encoded text and noticed everything was fine except the very end, and when I looked at your code when padding == 1 I noticed it looked odd becuase one of the bytes was not being masked

and on my system this caused the TABLE lookup to fail and give me an empty string (I don't know what JS would do. Possibly it may still give a valid output, but technically the code is wrong)

OK.

Perhaps its just some flavours of Javascript / ECMAScript that has a problem because the byte is not masked.

I'd still recommend you add the masking, unless the mask breaks the code for you, as it will make it more portable and I still think the code is technically incorrect without the mask even if it works on modern browsers
