I managed to figure it out, add this line to your launch.json configuration:
"postLaunchCommands": [ "set substitute-path /home/boydk C:" ]
replacing /home/boydk with whatever your home directory is. I didn't think this would work initially, since windows uses \ but the path only substitutes the prefix, and leaves all the remaining / the same (without replacing them with \)
