Once I started to implement it, I realized how it would clutter the GUI.
There is a way of not cluttering the GUI and that's by using a line-edit as a transient overlay (like FeatherPad's warning-bar). But that would mean lots of extra code.
However, a simpler idea came to my mind, i.e. making the file-name line-edit's completer case-insensitive. I should test it to see whether it's good in practice or not.
EDIT: Also, making the completer show files, whose names contain the typed string, seems like a good idea.
