I'm currently in progress of updating/rewriting luv to use the soon to be released libuv 1.0. As part of this update I'm exposing the libuv loop which is very useful when doing multi-threading. Actually creating the threads is outside the scope of luv. I do intend to eventualy write another lua bindings that allows the user to create multiple lua threads each with it's own libuv event loop.
Also thread related is the uv_work_t stuff that lets you do custom work on libuv's thread pool. There may be something I could do with this as well.
But luv is tightly scoped to only exposing libuv to lua. Anything that's not a libuv API is outside the scope of the luv project.

@creationix I wonder how long it will cost for the next version of luv that uses libuv 1.0. The branch has been not modified for a few days.

I was traveling last week. I'll start back on it tomorrow.
