Have you already tried running torch on iOS or you're planning to use TensorFlow, or Accelerate?

hi @nike-17, I am not sure if you can develop product because Adobe put a license on it...

we are based on the idea, not on implementation.

nike-17 avatar nike-17 commented on June 10, 2024

We are not really sure how Adobe related to it?

@nike-17 , this work was done when I was an intern at Adobe. They might already fill a patent on this work.

In this case, we will base our activity on ideas that are not mentioned in this whitepaper.

@nike-17 , ok, I'm not good at this and not sure if Adobe is ok with that so I will forward you to the patent lawyers by email.

Thanks for your interest, Nikita. I have asked for advice and below is the answer.

Adobe declines to publicly comment on the specifics of our intellectual property, including our patent portfolio. You should discuss potential intellectual property issues with your own counsel prior to implementing ideas contained in any white papers.

Just speculating: There are a number of other implementations of similar algorithms under different licenses, so I don't think Adobe or any other company can put any restriction on this idea. Moreover, Adobe is not the first one.

My understanding is that you can't patent an abstract algorithm, only a specific implementation of one.

@luanfujun question not related to the issue: you worked as an intern at Adobe? Cool! Do you know of any plans that Adobe will add features like this to Photoshop in the future? If you are allowed to tell of course.

luanfujun avatar luanfujun commented on June 10, 2024

@subzerofun, I cannot comment on any of the Adobe plans.

@luanfujun OK, it would have surprised me if you were allowed to talk about this. Nevertheless i still envy you for working at Adobe!
