The GPL2, can also let you release your work under the LGPL2.1 as they are compatible. The GPL differs from the LGPL as the GPL licensed software can only be used with other GPL licensed software, however a LGPL licensed software can be used with any licensed software (allowing for example commercial/closed-source/proprietary applications to use it). Added onto this, to gain GPL3 compatibility you have to also include a GPL3 license such as LGPL3, GPL3, AGPL3, or when you include the GPL2 license of your choice then use the words "or a later version". The AGPL3 is exactly the same as the GPL3, except that it also covers software distributed over the internet - such as web applications - whereas the GPL3 just covers traditional forms of distribution (Eg. CDs etc). Unfortunately there is not a LAGPL3 :-( - which is what I am currently investigating for my own projects.
This is coming from a fellow open source developer who has recently been looking into multi licensing for his own projects (I already use AGPL3 for everything). On another topic, how come you chose the Apache license over the GPL series originally?
