If you are running the version of zoneminder in development, 1.31.1 currently, then the contents of the path tab has been moved under the /etc/zm/conf.d folder. You should be able to find the value for PATH_ZMS in one of the config files in that folder.

The issue seems to be that zms gets killed somehow. The socket exists for a brief second when zms is running, but it's removed when it is killed.

It seems AUTH_RELAY is the issue. Setting it to none is a workaround.
