@vtjnash you introduced that in 2014 in 8db4238, do you remember why?

It should normally allocate no more than 64 kiB in total but that may be just enough to push the stack over the edge, under the right circumstances.

I believe it was because CompareStringOrdinal wasn't implemented until Vista, so I made my own with this function. In hindsight it would probably have been easier to write my own case conversion for each character instead for XP

Case conversion, I think you can just write your own function for that. Or you can use a function like toupper which means the same thing.

Without missing case-sensitive comparisons, we can also implement a method of our own
