An alternative seems to use onCanAdd to detect addition value.

@Gaetanbrl not sure i get the issue
if you have an existing suggestion, it will be focused. therefore, pressing enter will add it
if you want to allow new suggestions, you can allowNew
onCanAdd is for custom validation
onSelectItem is for existing items
onCreateItem is for new items
