Thanks for the suggestion. I think this is probably a fairly specific use-case so I don't think we need to add this sort of thing to core unless lots of people request it.

However, custom option types would allow you to deal with this quite nicely. Here's an example!

require "slop"

class CustomOption < Slop::StringOption
  def call(value)
    unless supported_values.include?(value)
      raise "Oh dear!"
    end

    value
  end

  def supported_values
    config.fetch(:supported_values, [])
  end
end

args = %w(--flag invalid)

opts = Slop.parse args do |o|
  o.custom "--flag", supported_values: %w(argument)
end

A choice based command line argument would be a fairly common one. Most argument parsers in other languages support choices out of the box. Anyways, i ended up using Thor as it works nicely with rails rake tasks.
