I'm using 1.2 now, had similar behavior in the previous version (1.1?).

I haven't written that much custom scss for a project I've just started, it happened very early with the starterkit from this drupal theme: http://ftp.drupal.org/files/projects/zen-7.x-5.1.tar.gz There are a decent amount of files, plus a custom compass grid extension.

A while back this issue solved itself - I'm not exactly how or why. I was using an older version of ruby when the issue was posted (whatever came with Lion by default), so it could have been that or just restarting my machine fixed something.

Anyways if it comes up again, upgrade thy ruby?
