@edwardlavender Sorry for being late in response. So can you clarify that what you want is to compute a geometric median on the unit hypersphere? If that is what you want, another package of mine called Riemann has the functionality with a designated example for working with that. If not, please let me help through to clarify what you mean exactly.

Thanks for your response! Your Riemann package looks fantastic. In this case, I was looking for a function that would take in longitude and latitude coordinates, and associated weights for those locations, and calculate the location which minimises the sum of the distances to the other locations (accounting for their respective weights). (I am not sure if this is correctly termed the geometric median?) Based on your Reinmann package, it looks like theriem.mean() can be used for this purpose (although it uses squared distances - I don't know what difference this makes?). Anyway, thank you for the advice--much appreciated!
