Support for 2.6 will end in October this year (http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0361), so why bother supporting it?

See #23 regarding your suggestion about argparse. Because of the issue described there, I will not be adding argparse as an unconditional dependency.

Feel free to add 2.6 to the .travis.yml file and see if the tests pass.

  1. It is easy to support now as it requires no changes
  2. There are systems that will be running 2.6 a long time beyond the point of the 2.6.9 release In October 2013
  3. You can always drop support once it becomes a burden.

There might even be Linux versions supporting 2.6 beyond what the PEP indicates, just like 2.5.2 is supported on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS until 2015.
