Hi bikeNomad,
I confess I was not even aware of the existence of eLua. Thanks for making me aware of it.
I will need time to think about the best way to do this while remaining as platform-independent as possible.
In the meantime, I have created a branch for eLua:
https://github.com/kikito/inspect.lua/tree/eLua
I made a change on that branch that should (I think) work as expected with romtables. Could you please test it?
Also, it would help me greatly if you knew where I could find a list of the types that eLua has, to see if there's any other edge case like this (i.e. other types of number or something else). I gave a quick look at the docs but came out empty-handed.
Thanks!

Hello @bikeNomad,
Where you able to test the branch I sent you in eLua?
from inspect.lua.
I did some investigation on the eLua mailing list:
http://elua-development.2368040.n2.nabble.com/How-do-I-run-eLua-on-my-computer-td7578455.html
TL;DR:
- It is possible (but undocumented) to run a "motherboard simulator" inside a Linux box
- However, at the moment you can't start it up and feed it a bunch of commands to execute. You have to use it "interactively". Which does not help me for automated tests.

Since I have no way to test this myself, @bikeNomad has stopped responding, and no one else seems to need this feature, I am going to close this issue.
@bikeNomad, if you need this feature in the future, please reopen the issue (and schedule some time to make some tests, I can't do them myself).
