I believe this depends on your plan. The launcher actually intentionally sends heartbeat, so that the session does not get terminated, so that you can use it for development with autoWatch.
Karma needs to be able to not sync browsers (eg. start test run as soon as a browser connects, currently it waits for all the browsers). There's already an issue for it karma-runner/karma#57 I believe that will fix your issue.
In the meantime, you can define two karma tasks, something like this:
karma start --browsers sl_chrome_linux, sl_chrome_win
karma start --browsers sl_firefoxfrom karma-sauce-launcher.
