I see that Wayland is still very difficult for such kind of an application. Nevertheless, the minimal prototype has shown that it is possible in theory - yet it will require custom backends for the various desktop environments using Wayland.

• ydotool, requires udev rules or root, may have issues with different keyboard layouts
