I updated the docs with an example request via curl: https://github.com/justintv/Twitch-API/blob/master/resources/channels.md#example-request-4
Try that out first and see if you still get a 400.

So, just to be sure: I am PUT-ting 'channel[status]=hooray&channel[game]=Halo' to https://api.twitch.tv/kraken/channels/channel?oauth_token=token ?

Yeah if that curl request doesn't work, there's something odd on your end of things.
