I have added a PrematureDisconnection exception in commit: 376e58e

If you catch this one you can chose your own reconnect/fail procedure. Like connect with a small time delay or fail after some tries. Logging etc. Is this sufficient?

I have uploaded it into maven central as version 0.4.5-SNAPSHOT

If you are ok with this solution I will close the issue and prepare a new release.

That's a good start. Eventually it would be nice to have something like the
CuratorFramwork has, where you can configure a
"BoundedExponentialBackoffRetry" policy so users won't have to implement
their own. But this definitely will work for me, thanks.

Good idea. Was thinking of something like it. I opened issue #4 to track this idea.
