Not all platforms provide a (working) wcwidth.
For platforms that do it does make sense to use the native one. Some take into consideration locale, which is nice.

Not sure how much it matters anymore to support those platforms. At one time I had a list, but I seemed to have lost that.

I personally don't like to support non-POSIX platforms, they tend to make
the code quite ugly.

But obviously it's your call :-)
