With version 4.x I switched back to Ubuntu (22.04) vs Alpine Linux which is why the OpenVPN client version differences.

I doubt it but this might be related (or partly) so make sure you're pulling in the latest versions of your configs. I use a docker volume to hold mine, so if I want to update configs I need to delete and create said volume.

I feel the problem is related to UFW or specifically the UFW_KILLSWITCH setting which is by default set to false. I tested it again locally and doesn't seem to work like it did when I was testing a few months ago.

I'll have to check more into using UFW regarding that setting, but I also don't think UFW accepts domain names to allow/deny. This makes even more sense to me now with your error message of Bad destination address. When testing my configs all had IPs in the config, so checking if a domain was allowed via UFW didn't cross my mind.

Either remove UFW_KILLSWITCH or set it to false and report back, please.
