Warning: master is in a state of flux. The getting started guide is probbably a bit out of date.
That said, the demo you are alluding to is actually in samples/contrib. I just tested it (after I fixed the recent syntax changes) and indeed, I get the same error. You can fix it manually by making center all uppercase: alignment="CENTER" etc. The FXML support is rather fickle right now, which is why you also must make stylesheets=".." into a property element: <stylesheets><URL value="..."/></stylesheets> The bug for that is a rather obscure issue with java that will take a bit of poking to fix. I plan on tacking a bunch of issues i've found so far next week. If you need 100% perfect FXML support before then, use the released gem instead of master.
If you want a working FXML demo, see samples/fxml/Demo.rb. This is the kind of output that Scene Builder outputs and the most tested.
