observed the same issue and fixed it by moving the super call after reconfiguring the widget to be hidden. this is untested on django 1.4!

I also have this problem... it also causes the 'delete' column heading to mislabel the ordering field. Screenshot:

I got around it without modifying django-admin-sortable2 (thanks to fdemmer's code that pointed out the root of the problem):

# part of my admin.py:
class MyModelForm(forms.ModelForm):
    # emulate the field tweaks that fdemmer moved the super() around
    order = forms.IntegerField(initial=0, required=False, widget=forms.HiddenInput)

class MyInline(SortableInlineAdminMixin, admin.TabularInline):
    model = MyModel
    # integrate the added form:
    form = MyModelForm

This should be fixed now in version 0.3.1.
