Another problem is that it's not clear how to configure different installers for different platforms. The help bubble reads "For a platform-independent tool (such as Ant), configuring multiple installers for a single tool makes not much sense, but for a platform dependent tool, multiple installer configurations allow you to run a different set up script depending on the slave environment."

But when I configure JDK installers, there is no obvious way for me to indicate which installer should be used for which platform. Specifically, I wish to avoid the JDK auto-installer from running under OSX because it is currently unsupported and prints a warning message every time.

Moved the issue to the INFRA project

I don't think this is really an INFRA level task. INFRA is for project infrastructure but this seems related to the auto-installer feature of the Jenkins server itself

Oleg, assigning this to you because I really don't think this has anything to do with INFRA. I think it's more of a wiki/core/docs issue

Moved to Update Center. If we want to do something, we firstly need tooling support for the plugin metadata

This is what the label field when selecting tool installers is for. Not sure whether it exists for auto installers (if not, it should, but a separate issue)

If we want to do something, we firstly need tooling support for the plugin metadata

Would be a linked change in the tools crawler and the component implementing the ToolInstallation. Makes no sense to look at this in isolation, especially not as a general issue (rather than specifically on JDKs).

The actionable part of this is captured by WEBSITE-193.

The rest is too general; needs specific issues in the components implementing the ToolInstaller / ToolInstallations; the crawler is just an extension of that.
