The expected behaviour when providing a port number on as part of the host would be to respect the port. :)
Like you say, the way to use a non-default port in a standalone rsync command over ssh is to use the -e
argument, so not 100% sure that the "expected" behaviour would be that a string like user@host:port
would work ...
The way I use this is to set all ssh related options in a host alias entry in my ~/.ssh/config
. You can set a port number in there too. Something like:
Host <host-name>
HostName <fqdn>
User <user-name>
Port <port>
Identityfile <private-key>
IdentitiesOnly yes
If I made that intended usage more explicit in the readme would that suffice do you think?
