To be honest, the LMDB cache backend is inferior to either of the other backends [1] - I would be inclined to remove it or disable it by default.

[1] Unless you need to save every last byte of memory, the simple backend is probably safer and faster, and in a multi-threaded forking environment, the mmap backend is FAR superior, allowing the cache to be shared between all processes and not needing any sort of pointer deserialization.
