I've done some more reading and found that I needed to pass RequestContext into the template. Everything works a treat now - thanks for a super module!

Thanks for trying out the Clicky integration, and sorry for the late reply. Too bad you missed the need for passing a RequestContext to the template. Do you see a way to improve the documentation to prevent others from doing the same?

I'm not sure whether your update was made after having closed the issue. If so, it is better to add comments to make the issue status and timeline a little clearer.

The tracking code that ships with django-analytical seems to be up to date. The error you report in your update seems to indicate that the (Request)Context you pass to the template contains another RequestContext. Could you post the code that renders your template?

Regarding the documentation, I used the installation instructions here: http://packages.python.org/django-analytical/install.html. Maybe include the section titled "Identifying authenticated users" at http://packages.python.org/django-analytical/tutorial.html in the installation instructions as well? Looking back at the docs now, I really should have picked it up, but anyway...

Apologies about the closing of the issue - still getting the hang of github protocol. Appreciate the feedback.

I cleaned up my code a bit once I got it working to pass RequestContext to all my templates uniformly so can't post any of the code (I'm implementing Mercurial now as well...).

Super tool by the way - which analytics tools do you find yourself using regularly?

I'll link to the "Identifying user" in the quick-start, good idea.

As for the error, do you mean django-analytical works even if you revert the commenting out the lines you mention in your update?

Currently, I like Clicky, Chartbeat, Olark and UserVoice. :-)

The link to the features page, which contains info on tracking users, was already present at the bottom of the tutorial, but I added an emphasis about tracking users.

You did not yet answer this question:

As for the error, do you mean django-analytical works even if you revert the commenting out the lines you mention in your update?

Is django-analytical still broken for you as it is distributed?
