Try deleting the directory specified in the exception. Seems to have serialized some classes that cannot be deserialized (possibly from an older version).

I have exactly the same issue with Grails 2.4.4 (Tomcat 7.0.55) and grails-melody:1.56.0 plugin.

@beechovsky yes @yspotts suggestion works. I was facing the same issue so I upgraded to 1.59.0 version but that has issues with tomcat 7 and grails 2.5 as mentioned in #23 so I downgraded to 1.54.0. thus upon applying @yspotts suggestion exception does disappear. very strange but it is working.

Grails 2 is not supported anymore, please open a new issue if it happens with Grails 3.
