Sorry for the slow response!
I noticed at some point some issues with long documents, this is probably a limitation with browsers.
You could try making your content in half-size and then initially zooming to the content. Or you could try to trick around this by scaling your content with css down to half "-webkit-transform:scale(0.5);transform(0.5);" but I'm not sure if it would help.

I've gotten zooming to work with a 3000px background image, scaled at 0.3. Works well in Chrome and Safari. It is rather slow on Firefox (on Mac only) for some reason. Using a smaller image helps.
