The image library used by the sprite-factory is configurable, out of the box it supports either RMagick or ChunkyPNG - the latter is (I think) a ruby only library. You can use the :library => :chunkypng
option to switch to chunkypng instead of rmagick, or if there is a different image library more suitable for use with jRuby then you can extend sprite-factory by providing a custom SpriteFactory::Library
module.

Thanks for the clarification there. Yes, I understood that it would indeed work with chunkpng
, but I also realize that that won't work with jpegs and thus my question. It did compile okay, but then I futzed with rmagick
a bit on jruby and realized that it wasn't worth really trying to use the native c extension support since it appears the jruby team is letting go of it due to lack of resources / funding.
Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get something a bit more robust for non pngs into place; might be something we'll fiddle with and commit back at some point. Appreciate the input!
