Maria Campbell's Projects

evolution-in-design-and-development icon evolution-in-design-and-development

My presentation for React Camp at Open Camps NYC November 18, 2017, entitled Evolution of Design and Development: A Melting Pot. Originally made with Formidable Labs' Spectacle Slide Deck created with React, but now made with Brent Jackson's MDX-Deck. This too is built with React, and is a mix of React and Markdown. Love it, and a real pleasure to work with.

This is a little game I created called "Guess the keys and press them!

oh-my-zsh icon oh-my-zsh

A delightful community-driven (with 1,000+ contributors) framework for managing your zsh configuration. Includes 200+ optional plugins (rails, git, OSX, hub, capistrano, brew, ant, php, python, etc), over 140 themes to spice up your morning, and an auto-update tool so that makes it easy to keep up with the latest updates from the community.

This is another application which I originally used with Node.js/Express and EJS, but did not want to simply use with a front end only React application. That's because I was using an environment variable for my API Key, and wanted to hide it on the backend. Next.js allows me to do that! This was fun, and very different from my Express app.

react-workflow-presentation icon react-workflow-presentation

My Presentation for ReactNYC September 28, 2017 entitled React Workflows Without Create React App. Made with the reveal.js presentation deck which is created with vanilla JavaSscript.

react-workflow-updated-2018 icon react-workflow-updated-2018

This is the second edition of My Presentation for ReactNYC September 28, 2017 entitled React Workflows Without Create React App. Made with the reveal.js presentation deck which is created with vanilla JavaSscript. It incorporates changes made to React 16.6+, ESLint 5.9.0, Babel 7, and webpack 4 +.

the-cat-whisperer icon the-cat-whisperer

A little app I created so that cat lovers could be inspired to write about their cats using speech synthesis api and be inspired by the app's cat image fader slideshow. There is also music if one wants to listen while writing. The user's text is saved to session storage. And if he/she does reach the 5mb limit, he/she can save it to a .txt file and download it on their desktop. In iOS mobile, he/she can save it to an app. I save it to my Wunderlist app, for example. In iOS, however, downloading the local storage text only works (interestingly enough) in Safari. It does not work in Chrome or Firefox. Firefox is no longer supported by iOS anyway.

This project went from being a vanilla ES6 JS project to being a Node.js Express JS project to a Next.js SSR project! I had to find a way of refactoring this Node.js Express project into something else because I am exiting Heroku. And the logical thing to do for me was to refactor it into a Next.js project. Best thing I did!
