I'm facing the same issue! The cname configuration in the pom file, as well as the command line argument is overridden by the artifact id.

Both cases need to use environmentRef. See this link for details

Thanks, it works now when I add the following instead of cnamePrefix:

<environmentRef>my-awesome-app.elasticbeanstalk.com</environmentRef>

With version 1.5.6 it worked for me by setting property
<beanstalk.environmentRef>[my environment name]</beanstalk.environmentRef>
It targets with fully matching regular expression the environment name as displayed with goal describe-environments
