2 things need to be set:

• your dns, of course 😉 You have to create a CNAME record (sub.domain.com), pointing to the name of your Heroku app (yourapp.herokuapp.com)
• in your app's settings on Heroku, specify that the app should respond to your subdomain. I think you can even put a wildcard here (*.domain.com) so that it responds to any subdomain.

We definitely noticed the slow down for pg:backups. The tool seems to make repeated requests for each schema which drastically slows things down.

Heroku however now has ingres support for all of their db plans (I believe) so we export our dbs using pg_dump. The automated backups running in the background seem to have no problems. We're working with over 100 schemas so far, things are working fine.
