The popup is a prototype to ease navigation where we're jumping too much between left/right/singlecol layout. Simulation for example should make much more fun right now. Even if we want to have something similar as a "core" feature", it is still a prototype. Please tell me more about your objections, irritating workflows or other suggestions!

NB: I see what's wrong with "edit" mode, that one is half-finished and has not been correctly migrated, sorry for that. I wrote this on the plane to Portland :p Will try to fix it asap. Could you give "simulation" a try with the current master? Does it feel better?
