I don't think this is specifically related to Node.js 4.1.2, as I remember seeing it happening arbitrarily with other versions as well sometimes. I'm not sure there's anything we can do about it but if you have any suggestion please let me know or don't hesitate to make a PR.

Mongoose should still work without native bson, though.

Anyway, if you want, you can try using a different Node.js version, thanks to this PR from @juodumas.

It's not Node.js 4.1.2 specific. The question is whether it's newer Node.js specific or EL6 / OpenShift specific. Some sources claim it might be due to missing libkrb5-devel (or its alternative on EL6), however I don't know a way to see installed packages on OpenShift since yum doesn't work.

Mongoose will work, but without native extensions I'm not sure OpenShift can be considered for serious Node.js deployment.

Noative parser or not, I had no problems regarding performance with OpenShift so far, but one could always choose to use Heroku + MongoLab or anything else for the right price :-)

Anyway, according to this thread here, the new JS parser/serializer is pretty close to the native one.
