Thanks for the tip. I've seen it before, but never experimented with it.

I wanted to create and use ResembleJS because it is more accessible to myself and contributors (Most people know JavaScript). I also wanted to keep dependencies to minimum to make it easier for users to set up and use the tool quickly. The nice thing about JS is that you don't need to do anything special across OSs.

ResembleJS does protect itself to a degree from anti-aliasing, I wrote an algorithm in ResembleJS which identifies an anti-aliased pixel then uses greyscale comparison on that pixel rather than RGB. Sometimes the affect of text rendering is just to great to easily dismiss, especially if one machine uses Clear Type and the other doesn't. The two images from different machines can look very different, to the point that to ignore those changes would result in the actual loss of test coverage.
