Perhaps try this:

class Singleton {
    static let instance = Singleton()
    private init() {}
}

This is interesting. I noticed the same behavior in the debugger but don't actually think multiple instances are getting created. If you put a logging statement in the Init() it will only get called once and if you open up instruments and check Allocations, you'll see only one instance of the singleton
