This feature should be revisited as part of map making design in #258. Also note that for multiplication by a sparse Toeplitz matrix in the Fourier domain, we have longstanding examples of using the batch FFT interface to FFTW / MKL to do all the overlapping chunks in parallel (the batch interface is threaded for 1D transforms):
